6/12/2023 0 Comments A brief history of time![]() But the arrow of time does carry us forward, and humans have measured this time through the ages in different ways. There is no evidence that we can move backwards in time or that “time tourists” from the future are with us. In his bestseller, A brief history of time, physicist Stephen Hawking reminded us that: “The increase of disorder or entropy is what distinguishes the past from the future, giving a direction to time.” ![]() In today’s world, time now governs our life. ![]() Nanoseconds mark the difference between success or failure to make an electronic transaction and where we are continuously reminded of “the time”: of being early or late, of having missed an appointment or arriving “before time”. We live in a world where time is all important. ![]()

Following Flaubert's legal battle, Madame Bovary was published as a two-volume novel in 1857. The trial lasted for just one day, and Flaubert and La Revue de Paris were both acquitted a week later. While Emma ultimately gets her comeuppance, Flaubert’s frank descriptions of adultery scandalized French readers and led to an obscenity trial. In pursuit of passionate love and luxurious possessions, Emma engages in extramarital affairs and squanders her husband’s money. Emma swiftly grows disillusioned with both her husband and their provincial ways, especially after she attends a ball thrown by one of her husband’s aristocratic patients. ![]() Madame Bovary tells the story of Emma, a peasant who marries an older doctor, Charles Bovary, to escape the dullness of rural life. MADAME BOVARY SHOCKED FRANCE WITH ITS EXPLICIT DESCRIPTIONS OF ADULTERY. Read on to learn more about Flaubert's inspiration for the character of Emma Bovary, his painstaking creative process, and the obscenity trial that threatened the novel's publication. His debut novel Madame Bovary, originally serialized in the French literary magazine La Revue de Paris in late 1856, established Flaubert as a master of French realism. A diagnosis of epilepsy forced him to abandon his legal education, which conveniently gave him the opportunity to pursue a literary career. ![]() French novelist Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880) studied law, but he was born to be a novelist. ![]() 6/12/2023 0 Comments Stephen king movies the shining![]() A gypsy-like band of them, led by Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson), feast on their souls, sucking up their last breaths - their “steam” - like a drug. It’s so overwhelmingly a misguided mission that you want to shout, “Don’t go in there!” And yet “Doctor Sleep” careens right ahead, recreating Kubrick shots, casting lookalikes to replay his scenes, refilling the elevator with blood and vainly trying to recapture some of the eerie majesty of “The Shining.”īut the downside to possessing the Shining is - like the side effects of so many things - psychic vampires. Yes, Hollywood’s insatiable search for new iterations for old intellectual property has wound its way, like the Torrances’ car meandering up the mountain road, to the House of Kubrick. Adapted from Stephen King’s 2013 book, “Doctor Sleep” shifts the story to the tricycle-riding tyke of “The Shining,” Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor), now grown and dealing, understandably, with a few residual psychological issues from his childhood stay at the Overlook Hotel. ![]() Our glimpses of Jack Torrance are fleeting in Michael Flanagan’s “The Shining” sequel, “Doctor Sleep,” but Stanley Kubrick’s colossal 1980 horror film is seldom out of mind, or out of frame. ![]() 6/12/2023 0 Comments The power by naomi![]() ![]() ![]() I didn’t feel connected with any of the characters, pretty much everyone was unlikeable and un-relatable. I didn’t have much patience for the biblical talk of “Mother Eve” neither could I handle Roxy and her entire family. More importantly: the pacing and organization of respective sections made little logical sense. There’s an argument to be made that there were a bit too many points of view with this book - especially since we get to meet so many secondary players. There are a few other important players, but we don’t follow them as closely. ![]() Each character is highly influential in changing the course of the world. Each of these four characters holds immense power (literally and physically for the women), our one and only main male character is a photo journalist. The Power has four main characters, three female, one male. Let’s jump into why… Great Potential, Weak Execution | The Power by Naomi Alderman The execution of this book was a hot freaking mess. Before I dive into why, a huge shout for an A+ fantastic premise, the idea was brilliant - it was great concept! Girls begin developing a strange physical power: they can produce electricity inside them, and this fierce new gift shifts the power dynamics between genders. ![]() Unpopular opinion over here! But I’m going to tell you right off the bat, I wasn’t a huge fan of The Power by Naomi Alderman. ![]() 6/11/2023 0 Comments The Falling by Kimberly Humphreys![]() ![]() ![]() Her choreography has been featured at Alabama Dance Festival, Uplift, Bridging Souls, Hot Foot Honeys, The Levitt Shell, AIDA Cruise line, and multiple studios around Tennessee and the rest of the states. ![]() Previously on faculty for the Dance Convention Southern Association of Dance Masters. Secondly, I was admittedly in a reading slump when I read this, so I might have been a touch more critical when reading. ![]() I was anticipating enjoying this book a lot more than I did. That’s part of the reason why I was so excited to get my hands on a copy of this book for review. ![]() Firstly, I’ve read from Katee Robert before, and I’ve enjoyed everything that I picked up. I have a feeling this review is going to be a bit harsh, so I’d like to make some disclaimers beforehand.
